Andrey Kidel

Andrey has 30 years’ experience in advising governments on their funding strategies, including access to capital markets, project finance and external public debt restructurings. After working for the UK Treasury, the IMF, the EU Commission and as Managing Director of Forex Research Ltd., a specialist foreign exchange hedging advisory firm, Andrey joined SG Warburg & Co. in 1981, where he advised a number of governments, including Indonesia, Cameroon and Gabon on funding strategies, including access to markets, project finance and investor presentations. Andrey also advised a number of countries on their external debt refinancings, including Côte d’Ivoire (issuance of Brady bonds), Pakistan (including the first sovereign bond restructuring and a Paris Club stock treatment), Poland and Russia.

More general financial advisory mandates included Cameroon (macro-economic stabilisation programme), Costa Rica (unification of the foreign exchange market), Guinea (privatisation of bauxite and alumina assets) and Indonesia (general financial advice). Andrey was appointed Vice-Chairman of SG Warburg International in 1993 and had global responsibility for sovereign advisory services between 1995 and 1999, when he was appointed Senior Consultant to UBS. Before joining Newstate Partners, Andrey had his own advisory firm, Sovereign Advisers Ltd., where he advised the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Congo on their commercial debt restructurings.

Andrey is a graduate of Oxford University and of the London School of Economics, and is fluent in French, with a working knowledge of German and Spanish.
